Digital Medicine, Arts, and STEAM: BEFORE US LIES ETERNERDY

Image Copyright: Quek Jia Liang

Happy to announce the presentation of a new immersive installation I produced with my colleagues Alexander Köhn and Mathias Neugebauer in cooperation with Ina Conradi and Mark Chavez from Media Art Nexus at NTU, Singapore. It offers an artistic, large-scale immersive experience in the stereoscopic 3D theatre Deep Space 8K and at the Media Art Nexus. The simultaneous launch marks the beginning of the aspired deeper cooperation in which Fraunhofer MEVIS will provide techniques, tools, scientific expertise and environment for students from NTU Singapore.

The movie shows different scales of the human body, from digitized microscopic lymphoma tissue examined with the molecular cytogenetic technique Fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) to detect abnormal changes in DNA, to 3D reconstructions of two vessel systems of a liver used in patient-specific intervention planning as well as a whole-body MRI. It is based exclusively on real medical data.

At a simultaneous launch of a stereoscopic 3D edit in the Deep Space 8K at Ars Electronica Festival and at the 15:2 meter video wall Media Art Nexus (MAN) at NTU Singapore I discussed with Alexander Köhn and Christoph Kremer (Director of Ars Electronica Center) and remotely with the artists Ina Conradi and Mark Chavez how the arts contribute aesthetics and a sense of awe to remove barriers to get engaged with severe health topics and how we will explore arts contribution to transdisciplinary approaches for innovation in digital medicine.

The short film was shown at Ars Electronica's Festival and Media Art Nexus NTU Singapore on September 8 at 11:30 CEDT and September 9 at 11:30 CEDT. Image Copyright MAN
