Research-driven, Collaborative, and Creative Science Engagement

I am honored that my transdisciplinary work over many years has been featured as one of four national case studies in the publication Fostering Transdisciplinarity & Participatory Research and Public Engagement with Research by the Stifterverband der Deutschen Wissenschaft, authored by Mhairi Stewart and Victoria Shennan (Museum für Naturkunde Berlin / Berlin School of Public Engagement and Open Science).

I view science engagement as an integral part of research and development. Within a decentralized, non-hierarchical environment, scientists at Fraunhofer MEVIS collaborate with creatives to explore new ways of making digital medicine tangible — from classical and expanded STEM workshops that use creative strategies to engage with science and technology, to STEAM initiatives, an upper secondary school specialization in “Digital Medicine,” and immersive exhibitions that allow audiences to experience new technologies, the underlying sciences, and their contributions to treating serious diseases in a positive and accessible way.

Through this open and inclusive approach, I aim to strengthen the connection between research and society while also creating new learning spaces for researchers themselves. I believe that innovation truly emerges where research, education, and creativity meet.

Heartfelt thanks to all contributing scientists and partners for their dedication and shared commitment to open, collaborative, diverse, and engaged research and development.
