The special exhibition “Anatomy of Fragility—Body Images in Art and Science” shows EVOLVER at the Frankfurter Kunstverein, recognized and awarded for its innovative approach to integrating contemporary art with scientific discourse, and is currently hosting an exhibition exploring how our perception of the human body has evolved throughout history. Curated by Franziska Nori, Anita Lavorano, Pia Seifüßl, and Angel Moya Garcia, the exhibition invites visitors to reconsider the body as a mirror of its time, a site of politics and belonging, and an interface between art and science.

I am delighted that EVOLVER, created in 2022 by artist collective MARSHMALLOW LASER FEAST with key scientific partner Fraunhofer MEVIS, continues to amaze audiences worldwide. It takes you on a guided journey through the human body, beginning with a meditation voiced by Cate Blanchett and continuing in virtual reality through the lungs, bloodstream, and a beating heart. Alongside EVOLVER, for which I developed and led the sciart partnership on behalf of Fraunhofer MEVIS, the exhibition features our award-winning behind-the-scenes short documentary, for which I served as director, writer, and scientific consultant. The documentary offers insights into the science behind the artwork and celebrates the research that made it possible.
The body is not just a biological object; it is vulnerable, political, and culturally shaped. It has been studied, measured, healed, and controlled for centuries, and is a canvas for power, ideologies, and worldviews. From Greek ideals and religious votive offerings to 18th-century wax figures and today’s medical imaging, each era tells new stories about humanity. Contemporary artworks reinterpret physicality and invite a fresh vision of what it means to be human.
